Umthombo Youth Development Foundation (UYDF) is a South African non-profit organization that empowers rural youth in the healthcare sector.
Their mission is to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in underserved areas by providing educational support and career development opportunities.
UYDF Bursary Program 2025
The UYDF Bursary Program offers financial assistance to South African students from the Umkhanyakude, Zululand, and King Cetshwayo districts in KwaZulu-Natal.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must reside within the specified districts and catchment areas of designated hospitals.
- Must be currently enrolled in or have completed Matric.
- Must be pursuing a degree in one of the following Health Science fields:
- Audiology
- Dentistry
- Dental Therapy
- Medicine
- Nursing
- Occupational Therapy
- Optometry
- Physiotherapy
- Radiography: Ultrasonography
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Must have been accepted into a recognized public South African university (excluding UNISA).
- Must be entering their 1st or 2nd year of study for 4-year degrees or their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year for medical degrees in 2025.
- Must not hold a prior degree or diploma.
- Must have received or applied for NSFAS funding for the 2025 academic year.
- Upon graduation, you must commit to working at one of the designated hospitals for at least two years.
- Preference is given to Matriculants.

How to Apply for UYDF Bursary
To apply for the UYDF Bursary, applicants must:
- Download and complete the UYDF Bursary Application Form 2025.
- Indicate “Bursariesmzansi.co.za” as the source of information about the bursary.
- Submit the completed application form along with the following supporting documents:
- Certified copy of ID document or passport.
- A certified copy of Matric June results or Matric certificate is required.
- Academic records and a letter from the department confirming the year of study (for current students).
- Proof of application or acceptance to a tertiary institution.
- The latest university account fee statement (if applicable) is attached.
- Proof of NSFAS acceptance.
- Completed Declaration form.

Applicants should also specify the nearest hospital to them in the application.
