Transnet Bursary Program 2025
Transnet’s bursary program is part of its pipeline development strategy, aimed at addressing skill shortages within the organization and contributing to the broader development of South Africa.
The bursary is available for students pursuing undergraduate degrees or national diplomas in critical fields such as engineering, geospatial studies, supply chain management, property law, and more.
This initiative ensures that talented individuals have the financial and experiential support needed to excel in their academic and professional journeys.
Fields Covered by the Bursary
Transnet offers bursaries in two main categories:
Specialist Commercial Bursary (Degree or National Diploma)
- Geospatial

- LLB (Property Law, Commercial Law)

Engineering Bursary (BEng or BSc)
- Electrical Engineering

Bursary Benefits
Recipients of the Transnet bursary receive comprehensive financial support, including:
- Full coverage of tuition fees
- A textbook allowance
- Accommodation and meals
- Experiential training opportunities
Additionally, students may be required to undertake vacation work during the June/July or December/January holidays.
Upon graduation, bursars may need to work for Transnet for a period equivalent to the duration of the bursary, depending on vacancy availability.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Transnet bursary, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a South African citizen
- Have completed Matric or be in the process of completing it
- Be studying or planning to study full-time in 2025 towards an undergraduate qualification in one of the listed fields
- Be enrolled or accepted at a recognized tertiary institution in South Africa
For Specialist Commercial Bursary applicants:
- Achieve a minimum of level 5 (60%) in English and relevant subjects for the course of study
For Engineering Bursary applicants:
- Achieve a minimum of level 5 (60%) in Mathematics, Physical Science, and English

Selection Process

The selection process includes:
- Interviews conducted by the Transnet Academy in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape, and Eastern Cape
- A medical fitness assessment
- Submission of satisfactory academic results
