Rand Water, South Africa’s largest water utility company, invites students to apply for its 2025 Bursary Programme.
Founded in 1903, Rand Water supplies potable water to Gauteng and other regions, serving metropolitan municipalities, local municipalities, industries, and mines.
With a distribution network spanning over 3,000 km of pipelines and supplying more than 3,500 million litres of water daily, Rand Water plays a critical role in South Africa’s water sector.
Study Fields Covered by the Rand Water Bursary
Bursaries will be awarded to undergraduate students pursuing studies in the following Water Sector-related fields:
- Accounting / Finance: B Comm (1 bursary for a 3rd-year student).
- Chemical Engineering / Chemistry / Biochemistry: BSc (2 bursaries for 3rd-year students).
- Chemistry: BSc (2 bursaries for 2nd-year students).
- Corporate Communication: B Comm (1 bursary for a 2nd-year student).
- Economics: BCom (2 bursaries for 2nd and 3rd-year students).
- Electrical: Diploma (2 bursaries for 2nd-year students).
- Hydrology / Modeling: BSc Hons (1 bursary for a 4th-year student).
- Instruments and Process Control: Diploma (2 bursaries for 2nd-year students).
- Maintenance Engineering: BEng (3 bursaries for 2nd-year students).
- Mechanical Engineering: BEng (3 bursaries for 2nd-year students).
- Microbiology: BSc Hons (1 bursary for a 2nd-year student).
- Natural Science (Environmental Education): BSc (2 bursaries for 3rd-year students).

The bursary provides financial support for:
- Tuition fees.
- Accommodation.
- Books and study materials.
Who Can Apply for the Rand Water Bursary?
To qualify for the bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be under 35 years old.
- Have completed Matric or equivalent.
- Be studying full-time towards one of the approved qualifications.
- Be enrolled at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa.
- I have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% and strong academic performance in major subjects.
- Demonstrate an interest in working within the water sector.
- Come from a previously disadvantaged background.
- NOT be receiving any other bursary awards or funding.
- Be self-motivated, results-driven, and possess strong communication skills.
- Commit to completing the qualification within the specified timeframe.
- Preference will be given to female students and students with disabilities (in line with Rand Water’s Employment Equity objectives).
