The Newcastle Municipality invites applications for its Mayoral Bursary Registration Fund for the 2025 academic year. Bursaries are available for any field of study, with preference given to scarce skills disciplines.

- Registration and tuition fees.
- Study materials and other associated costs.
Eligibility Requirements for the Newcastle Municipality Bursary
Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for the bursary:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Permanently reside within the Newcastle Municipality area in KwaZulu-Natal.
- Be aged between 14 and 35 years.
- Have completed Matric.
- Have been accepted to study full-time at an accredited higher education institution in South Africa.
- Be entering the first year of undergraduate studies in 2025.
- Not be receiving funding from NSFAS.
- Have no outstanding tertiary fees.
Steps to Apply
- Collect an application form from the Newcastle Municipality Building, Office F28, or any Municipal Library (available between 17:30 and 16:00).
- Submit the following supporting documents along with your completed application form:
- Certified copy of your ID document.
- A certified copy of your matric certificate or statement of results is required.
- Proof of acceptance to a tertiary institution (on the institution’s letterhead).
- Certified copies of your parents’ or guardians’ ID documents.
- Proof of household income (latest payslips, affidavit if unemployed, bank statements or business documents if self-employed, grant or pension proof, or death certificate if applicable).
- Proof of residence from your Ward Councillor.
- Quotation of fees from your institution of study (on the institution’s letterhead).
- A motivational letter supporting your application.
Applications must be delivered in person to Newcastle Municipality 37 Scott Street Old Building Youth Office F28 (Reception/Security Desk, Town Hall entrance)
