The For Coloured Girls Bursary Foundation provides a life-changing opportunity for young women from disadvantaged communities to pursue their academic goals. Applications are now open for the 2025 academic year.
About For Coloured Girls
For Coloured Girls is a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering young coloured girls (Grades 8 to 12) from underprivileged backgrounds. The foundation aims to bridge the gap in access to education and resources, ensuring these young women achieve academic excellence and make informed, positive life choices.
The organisation operates on core values of respect, integrity, professionalism, and responsibility, striving to create meaningful and long-lasting changes in the lives of the girls it supports.
Fields of Study Covered
The For Coloured Girls Bursary supports:
- High School students (Grade 8 to 12)
- Undergraduate students (first or second year)
Preference will be given to:
- Language and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields.
- Qualifications listed under South Africa’s top 100 scarce skills.
The bursary program provides financial aid and mentoring, development opportunities, and psychological support to help young women thrive academically and personally.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the bursary, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Gender: Female.
- Background: From a coloured, destitute, and disadvantaged community.
- Education Level:
- High school students entering Grade 8 to 12.
- Undergraduate students entering 1st or 2nd year of study.
- Passion for Learning: Demonstrate a commitment to education and further studies.
- Academic Performance:
- Minimum average of 65% or a level 6 in academic grades.
- Preference given to those pursuing scarce skills or STEM-related fields.
