South Africa faces a pressing need for skilled professionals in the Finance and Accounting Services (FAS) Sector, as well as the Information Technology (IT) domain. 

To address this, the Finance and Accounting Services Sector Education and Training Authority (FASSET) offers a bursary program aimed at nurturing talent, fostering transformation, and expanding the critical skill sets needed to bolster these industries.

Founded in 2000, FASSET is one of South Africa’s Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs). 

The organization is dedicated to ensuring that individuals in its sector receive quality training and education to excel in their roles. 

FASSET Bursary Programme 2025

The FASSET Bursary Programme is designed to support South African students pursuing qualifications in the Finance and Accounting Services Sector or IT-related fields. 

The bursary aligns with FASSET’s mission to increase workforce entry into these sectors and promote inclusivity by providing financial assistance to deserving students.

Fields Covered by the Bursary

The bursary is open to students studying towards qualifications in the following areas:

  1. Finance
  2. Accounting
  3. Information Technology (IT)
  4. Nationally critical skills that align with FASSET’s objectives

The bursary covers key expenses, including:

  1. Tuition fees
  2. Prescribed textbooks
  3. Accommodation
  4. Meal allowances

Funding is capped at R100,000 for university and university of technology students, and R40,000 for TVET students.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the FASSET Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a South African citizen
  2. Be unemployed
  3. Be in Matric in 2024 or have completed Matric
  4. Intend to study or be registered at a public university, university of technology, or TVET college in South Africa in 2025
  5. Pursue a qualification within the specified fields of study
  6. Have a total household income of not more than R1 million per annum

Failure to meet any of these requirements will result in disqualification.

How to Apply for the FASSET Bursary

Applications for the FASSET Bursary must be submitted online, accompanied by the following compulsory documents:

  1. Certified ID document (not older than six months)
  2. Matric trial exam results (if in Matric)
  3. Certified academic records and highest qualification (not older than six months)
  4. Proof of registration or acceptance at an approved tertiary institution (stamped/signed)
  5. Certified copies of parents’ or guardians’ ID documents or death certificates (not older than six months)
  6. Proof of household income (latest payslips, affidavit if unemployed, or proof of pension/grant)
  7. Proof of address
  8. Completed FASSET 2025 Unemployment Declaration Letter

Deadlines

The closing date for applications was 31 December 2024 (23:59 midnight). 

If you submitted an application but have not received feedback by 28 February 2025, consider your application unsuccessful.
