This opportunity is ideal for those passionate about Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and seeking to build a career in this dynamic field.
Fields of Study Covered
The Esri South Africa Bursary Programme supports students pursuing a Diploma in Geoinformation Science and Technology (GIS) at the Esri South Africa College in Midrand.
Bursary recipients will also gain practical experience working part-time at Esri South Africa. Projects may include database services, cartography, client solutions, application development, and more, equipping students with real-world skills and exposure to cutting-edge GIS technology.
Bursary Coverage
The bursary will cover the following expenses for the five selected candidates:
- Full course fees for the entire duration of the study.
- Textbooks and study materials.
Note: Accommodation and travel expenses will be the student’s responsibility.
Graduates may be offered employment at Esri South Africa and will register as GIS technicians with the South African Geomatics Council.
About the GIS Diploma at Esri South Africa
This two-year diploma equips students with the skills to plan, build, and implement GIS projects. It includes 36 modules covering theoretical and practical aspects of geo-information science and technology.
Key competencies include:
- Acquiring and editing GIS data.
- Analyzing data and sharing results (e.g., maps or web-based outputs).
Students will participate in distance learning, virtual practical sessions, and virtual fieldwork.

Who Can Apply For Esri Bursary?
To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Matric Completion: Completed in 2023 or 2024.
- Mathematics Grade: Achieved between 65% and 100%.
- Study Intent: Plan to study for a GIS Diploma at Esri South Africa College (Midrand).
- Residency: Be willing to reside in Gauteng during the study period.
- Duration: Commit to completing the diploma in two years.
- Interest in GIS: Display enthusiasm for gaining practical GIS experience.
- Personal Qualities:
