The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) invites students to apply for its 2025 bursary programme.
DSAC Heritage Bursary South Africa 2025
This initiative by DSAC supports talented individuals pursuing studies in heritage-related fields, ensuring access to education and opportunities for socioeconomic contributions through sports, arts, and culture.
Fields of Study Covered
The DSAC bursary is available for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the following heritage-related fields:
- Anthropology (preferably Postgraduates specializing in Forensics)
- Archaeology (preferably Postgraduates specializing in Bioarchaeology)
- Geography and Geomatic Sciences (preferably Postgraduates specializing in Cartography and GIS)
- Archives and Records Management
- Library and Information Sciences
- Conservation of the Built Environment (including Preventive Conservation)
- Heritage and Museum Studies
- Palaeontology
- Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) or related courses
- History
- Digitization of Heritage Resources

Bursary Coverage
The DSAC bursary provides funding up to R110,000 per student to cover the following expenses:
- Tuition Fees: Full cover
- Prescribed Books: Full cover
- Electronic Devices: Up to R10,000 (3 receipts/invoices required)
- Accommodation: Up to R50,000 (where applicable)
- Meals: Up to R18,500 (where applicable)
- Transport: Up to R10,000 (where applicable)
Successful applicants must sign a contract with the department. If you do not receive feedback by 31 March 2025, consider your application unsuccessful.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the DSAC bursary, applicants must meet these requirements:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be 40 years old or younger
- Be currently in Matric (2024) or have completed Matric
- Be studying or intending to study an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in one of the listed fields
- Be accepted or provisionally accepted at a registered and accredited institution
- Have a strong academic record
- Not be fully employed in the private or public sector with an annual salary exceeding R130,000
- Not be receiving any other bursary funding

Ensure you submit clear, certified copies of the following:

- Latest Matric results/certificate
- Recent academic record (if applicable)
- Proof of provisional university acceptance/admission
- Progress report from your supervisor (for postgraduate students writing a dissertation or thesis)
Applications Deadline
Applications close on 31 January 2025. Late submissions will not be considered.
