City Power Johannesburg Invites South African Students to Apply for Its 2025 Bursary Programme

City Power Johannesburg (SOC) Limited, established in 2001, is a company owned by the City of Johannesburg.

Its mission is to provide universal access to electricity for residents of Johannesburg, one of the largest metros on the continent.

City Power ensures reliable electricity delivery to residential, commercial, and industrial customers, while also focusing on infrastructure maintenance, upgrades, and sustainable energy initiatives to meet the growing demand and support economic growth.

Study Fields Covered by the City Power Johannesburg Bursary

City Power Johannesburg is inviting students residing within the City of Johannesburg service area (Gauteng) to apply for their bursary programme for the 2025 academic year. The bursary will support studies in the following fields:

  • Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current/Light Current)
  • Environmental Health Management
  • Information Technology
  • Risk Management

City Power Johannesburg Bursary Coverage

The bursary aims to empower students by providing the following support:

  • Financial support for tuition fees.
  • Coverage for other study-related expenses.

Bursaries will be awarded in a ratio of 70% to females and 30% to males to promote diversity.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the City Power Johannesburg Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen residing within the City of Johannesburg service area (Gauteng province).
  • Have completed Matric with a minimum “C” symbol (60%) and meet the admission requirements of a tertiary institution.
  • Be studying or intend to study toward an undergraduate qualification in one of the listed fields.
  • Be enrolled or intend to enroll at a recognized South African tertiary institution (University, University of Technology, or TVET College).
  • Have achieved a minimum overall average of 60% in the most recent academic year, if currently studying.
  • Preference will be given to students studying at institutions in Gauteng, although students in other regions may also apply.

Shortlisted candidates will be subject to further checks, including:

  • Verification of qualifications.
  • Criminal record and reference checks.
  • Psychometric assessments (if required).
