The bursaries offered by Shoprite for 2025 will be awarded in the following fields:

- Biological and Agricultural Sciences – 10 bursaries

Key Details: Bursary Coverage and Service Contract
Shoprite’s bursary program is designed to provide significant financial support to students.
The bursary will cover the following:
- Tuition fees
- Books
- Accommodation allowance
The value of the bursary ranges from R30,000 to R60,000, depending on the chosen field of study and the institution.
In return for this support, bursary recipients are required to honor a service contract.
After completing their studies, they will need to work for Shoprite for one year for each year of funding received.
This provides an excellent opportunity for students to gain practical experience in their field while contributing to the growth of Shoprite, one of Africa’s largest retailers.
Fields of Study and Career Paths
Each field of study has tailored career opportunities within the Shoprite Group:
- Accounting (CA Stream – SAICA): Graduates will join the Shoprite Finance team and can gain exposure through the Accounting Articles Programme, working with a wide range of stakeholders within the Shoprite Group.
- Biological and Agricultural Sciences: Successful candidates will join the Fresh Foods/Freshmark team, contributing to the company’s high-quality food sourcing and distribution.
- Data Science: Graduates will join the Shoprite Data Science Academy, specializing in data science and becoming leaders in the field.

Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the Shoprite bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria, which vary depending on the field of study:
General Requirements:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be younger than 27 years old
- Have completed Matric (Grade 12)
- Be studying at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
Requirements for Each Field:
- Accounting (CA Stream – SAICA): Must be studying towards a BCom Accounting or BAcc (CA stream) degree, with a minimum average of 65% and at least 65% in Accounting, Auditing, and Taxation subjects.
- Biological and Agricultural Sciences: Must be studying towards a degree in Microbiology, Botany, Zoology, Genetics, Biotechnology, or any Agricultural degree with a minimum average of 60%.
- Data Science: Must be studying Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or similar, with a minimum average of 60% and 65% in Mathematics.
- Food Science: Must be studying Food Technology or Food Science with a minimum average of 60%.
- Information Technology/Systems: Must be studying Information Technology or Systems Analysis with a minimum average of 60%.
- Retail Business Management: Must be studying towards a Diploma in Retail Business Management with a minimum average of 65%.
- Supply Chain & Logistics: Must be studying Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a similar field with a minimum average of 60%.
