SANRAL Bursary South Africa

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) is a state-owned enterprise that plays a role in maintaining, managing, and developing South Africa’s national road network.

Full and Partial Bursaries

SANRAL offers two types of bursaries:

1. Full Bursary: Covers all educational expenses, including:
   • Registration fees
   • Tuition fees
   • Study materials and equipment
   • Accommodation and meals
2. Partial Bursary: Covers selected expenses, including:
   • Registration fees
   • Tuition fees
   • Accommodation
   • Access to wellness programmes

The exact type of bursary a student will receive depends on their financial need, as assessed through SANRAL’s means test. 

In some cases, a family contribution may be required, depending on the test’s outcome.

Selection Process

Applicants are selected based on two primary criteria:

1. Academic performance
2. Financial need (as determined by SANRAL’s Bursary Policy)

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview, and successful candidates will receive award letters. 

If no feedback is received by December 31, 2024, applicants should consider their application unsuccessful.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the SANRAL bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. South African citizen.
2. Must not be older than 35 years.
3. Must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric, or be studying full-time at a public tertiary institution in South Africa.
4. Must be studying in one of the specified fields of study.
5. Academic performance:
   • Matric students: Minimum overall average of 70%.
   • University students: Minimum overall average of 60%.
6. Proven financial need.
7. Applicants must not be receiving any other bursary support.
8. Students with disabilities: These applicants are encouraged to apply.

How to Apply for the SANRAL Bursary

Applying for the SANRAL bursary is an online process.

Applicants must submit clear copies of the following supporting documents:

1. ID document or birth certificate (certified copy).
2. Matric students: Term 1 and 2 results (certified copy).
3. Current tertiary students: Full academic record on the institution’s letterhead (certified copy).
4. Proof of tertiary registration (certified copy).
5. Motivational letter (1 page): Explaining why you should be awarded the bursary.
6. Parents or guardians:
   • ID documents (certified copies).
   • Proof of income (recent payslips or affidavit if self-employed or unemployed).
   • Proof of residence (water and electricity bill from the local council).

The submission of these documents is compulsory.

Incomplete applications or missing documents will be disqualified.
