The Moshal Scholarship Program is an initiative aimed at empowering ambitious and tenacious students to complete their university education. 

Operating in South Africa and Israel, the program is committed to enabling students to improve their lives and contribute positively to their communities. 

Since its start, the Moshal Program has supported approximately 1,000 students annually across both countries and has facilitated the graduation of 1,173 students with degrees in complex fields.

Key Details About the Moshal Scholarship

The Moshal Scholarship Program focuses on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and Commerce fields. 

Students pursuing the following degrees at selected universities are eligible to apply:

  1. Science: Dentistry, Medicine (MBChB), Pharmacy (University of KwaZulu-Natal only), Veterinary Science.
  2. Technology: Computer Science, Data Science, Information Science, Information Systems, Information Technology.
  3. Engineering: Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Mechatronic Engineering.
  4. Mathematics: Actuarial Science, Econometrics, Mathematics, Statistics.
  5. Commerce: Accounting, Economics, Financial Sciences, Investment Management, Management Sciences.

Scholarship Benefits

The Moshal Scholarship covers:

  1. Full tuition fees.
  2. Living and meal allowances.
  3. One-on-one support throughout the degree.
  4. Career guidance and professional development workshops.
  5. Additional English training, CV writing skills, and mock interviews.
  6. Vacation work opportunities to enhance practical experience.

Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview, while unsuccessful applicants will be notified via email.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the Moshal Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be in Matric or have completed Matric.
  2. Plan to study towards a degree in one of the listed fields in 2025.
  3. Be accepted or intend to study at one of these universities: Nelson Mandela University (NMU), Rhodes University (RU), Stellenbosch University (SUN), University of Cape Town (UCT), University of the Free State (UFS), University of Johannesburg (UJ), University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), University of Pretoria (UP), University of the Western Cape (UWC), or the University of Witwatersrand (WITS).
  4. Achieve at least 70% in English, Mathematics, Physical Science, and/or Accounting.
  5. Have a family income not exceeding R200,000 per annum.

How to Apply

Applications are submitted online. Follow these steps to ensure your application is complete:

  1. Visit the Online Portal: Go to the Moshal Scholarship Program’s official website.
  2. Provide Supporting Documents: Submit clear copies of the following:
    • ID document.
    • Passport and study visa, if not a South African citizen.
    • Parents’ or guardians’ ID documents.
    • A signed declaration/consent form if under 18.
    • Proof of social grants, bank statements, or an affidavit confirming lack of a bank account.
    • Grade 11 November results.

Applicants can save their progress and resume later, but changes cannot be made after submission.

Additional documents, such as Matric final results, university acceptance letters, NBT scores, and proof of parental income, may be required at a later stage for shortlisted candidates.
