This initiative supports students residing within the municipality by funding their studies in various fields, aiming to nurture talent and develop local communities.

Assmang Manganese: Black Rock Mine
Assmang Black Rock Mine Operations, located near Kuruman in the Northern Cape, is one of South Africa’s largest manganese reserves, with over 70 million tonnes of manganese ore; established in 1940, the mine primarily exports manganese while supplying some to the local market.
Bursary Details
The bursary program will award five bursaries to students residing in the Ga-Segonyana Local Municipality. Preferred fields of study include:
- Commerce: Accounting, Economics, Law, Human Resources, Business Management
- Arts & Social Sciences: Public Administration, Journalism, Communications, Industrial and Organisational Psychology, Social Work
- Education: Bachelor of Education
- Law: LLB
- Sciences: Actuarial Science, Agriculture, Architecture, Engineering, Geology, Quantity Surveying, Computer Science, Pharmacy, Nursing, MBChB
- Planning: Town and Regional Planning
Benefits
Recipients will receive financial assistance covering tuition fees, accommodation, and prescribed books. The program may also include mentorship opportunities and practical exposure in relevant fields.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- South African citizenship
- Reside within the Ga-Segonyana Local Municipality (Northern Cape)
- Aged 18 to 35
- Matric certificate with:
- Minimum level 5 in Mathematics and Physical Science (for Science fields)
- Minimum overall average of 60% (for non-science fields)
- Full-time enrollment or provisional acceptance at an accredited South African university in 2025
- Demonstrated financial need (as per means test)
- No other bursary funding or student loan
- Preference will be given to historically disadvantaged students.

To apply, download and complete the Assmang GSLM Bursary Application Form 2025 (available online or at the Municipal Offices). Submit the following supporting documents:
- Certified ID copy
- Certified Matric results/certificate
- Full tertiary academic record (if applicable)
- Proof of university acceptance/provisional acceptance for 2025
- Parent/guardian income proof (certified payslips, affidavit if unemployed, or proof of social grant/pension)
- Proof of residence
