The Gauteng City Region Academy (GCRA) is inviting students to apply for the GCRA Bursary for the 2025 academic year.

GCRA Bursary 2025

The GCRA bursary is for students who live in Gauteng and are studying for an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification.

Study Fields Covered by the Bursary

The GCRA bursary covers studies in any field.

However, students studying in the GGT2030 priority sectors will be given preference. 

These fields include:

  • Art and Design
  • Finance, Economics, and Accounting
  • Electrical Infrastructure Construction
  • Civil Engineering Construction
  • Hospitality Management
  • IT and Computer Science
  • Mechanical Automotive and Diesel Engineering
  • Tourism, Transport, and Logistics

Bursary Coverage

The GCRA bursary will cover the following costs:

  1. Registration fees
  2. Tuition fees
  3. Accommodation:
    • R65 000 for residence accommodation
    • R47 000 for off-campus/private accommodation
  4. Books
  5. Laptop
  6. Living allowance (for off-campus/private accommodation students)

Funding Duration and Renewal

The bursary is awarded for one academic year at a time.

If you were funded in the previous year, you must reapply to renew your bursary.

This ensures continued support throughout your studies.

Who Can Apply?

To qualify for the GCRA bursary, you must meet these requirements:

  1. Be a South African citizen
  2. Be 18 to 35 years old
  3. Live in Gauteng
  4. Have completed Matric in Gauteng
  5. Be accepted or registered for a 2025 undergraduate or postgraduate qualification
  6. Be studying at a registered institution (public or private higher education institutions, TVET colleges, community education and training colleges, or skills development providers)

You will automatically qualify if you:

  • Are a top achiever at a Gauteng-based school
  • Are in the top 3 learners from a no-fee paying Gauteng school
  • Are in the top 3 learners from a Learners with Special Education Needs (LSEN) school in Gauteng

Steps to Apply

  1. Register an account on the GCRA application portal.
  2. Login and start your application.
  3. Complete the sections:
    • Personal details
    • Matric details
    • Parent/guardian information
    • Tertiary institution details
    • Other sponsorships (if applicable)
    • Upload required documents
  4. Review and submit your application before the deadline.

Required Documents

Ensure you upload clear and certified copies of these documents:

  1. ID document
  2. Matric certificate
  3. Latest academic record (if currently studying)
  4. Proof of registration at a recognised institution
  5. Proof of residence in Gauteng
  6. Motivational letter (max 2 pages)
  7. Disability/medical report (if applicable)
  8. Parents/guardians proof of income
  9. Proof of other bursaries (if applicable)

Application Deadline

The closing date for the GCRA Bursary is 28 February 2025.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted within 3 to 4 weeks after the closing date.

If you do not receive feedback after 4 weeks, your application was unsuccessful.
