The Knysna Municipality is giving students a chance to further their studies through the Mayoral Bursary Fund for the 2025 academic year.

If you live in the Knysna Municipal District (Western Cape) and need financial help to study in a scarce skills field, this bursary can help cover some of your expenses.
Study Fields Covered by the Bursary
The Knysna Municipality Bursary is for students who are studying in fields that are in high demand. These fields include:
- Engineering
- Science
If you plan to study one of these courses in 2025, you should consider applying for this bursary.
Bursary Coverage
This bursary helps students by covering some of their academic costs. It provides funding for:
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees (partial cover)
- Book allowance (up to a set amount)
- Examination fees
- Accommodation (if you can prove that you need it)
The bursary money is not given to students directly. Instead, it is paid straight to the university or college.
Funding Duration and Renewal
The bursary is for the 2025 academic year. If you receive the bursary, it will only cover your studies for that year.
If you need funding for more years, you may have to reapply.
Successful applicants will be selected based on their financial need and academic performance.
If you do not get any feedback within two months after the closing date, it means your application was not successful.
Who Can Apply?
To qualify for the Knysna Municipality Bursary, you must meet the following conditions:
- Be a South African citizen
- Live in the Greater Knysna Municipal Area (Western Cape)
- Have completed Matric
- Be studying or planning to study full-time in 2025
- Be enrolling for a course in the scarce skills sector
- Be studying or planning to study at a SAQA-accredited tertiary or TVET institution in South Africa
Preference will be given to students who come from financially disadvantaged backgrounds or historically disadvantaged communities.
Steps to Apply
To apply for the bursary, follow these steps:
- Download the application form – Get the Knysna Municipality Bursary Application Form 2025 (PDF).
- Fill out the form completely – Make sure you provide all the required details.
- Gather supporting documents – You must include certified copies of the following:
- Your South African ID
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) and a cover letter
- Your Matric results or certificate
- Your most recent university or college results (if you are already studying)
- Proof of acceptance at a university or TVET college for 2025
- Proof of household income (latest payslips, affidavit if unemployed, pension advice, or proof of grant)
- Proof of residence
- Banking details of the institution (on the institution’s letterhead)
- Submit your application – You can send your application in one of two ways:

Applications sent via email or fax will NOT be accepted.
Application Deadline
The deadline to apply for the bursary is 14 February 2025 (at 12:00 PM).
Late applications will not be accepted, so make sure you submit your application before this date.
