The Executive Mayor’s Bursary Fund aims to support academically talented and financially disadvantaged students residing in the Vhembe District Municipality area.
This initiative reflects the municipality’s commitment to nurturing local talent and contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.
About Vhembe District Municipality
The Vhembe District Municipality, established in 2000, is located in the Limpopo province of South Africa. It is the northernmost district, bordering Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Botswana, with its headquarters in Thohoyandou.
The municipality is comprised of four local municipalities: Mutale, Musina, Makhado, and Thulamela.
Home to more than 1.1 million residents, Vhembe covers over 21,000 square kilometers.
The majority of its population speaks TshiVenda, followed by Xitsonga and Northern Sotho. Key towns within the municipality include Elim, Musina, Makhado, Malamulele, Thohoyandou, Tshilamba, Sibasa, and Dzanani.
Study Fields Covered by the Vhembe District Municipality Bursary
Bursaries are awarded to students pursuing Diploma or Bachelor’s degree studies in the following fields:
- Administration
- Agriculture
- Developmental Studies
- Economics and Business Management
- Engineering: Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, and Mining Engineering
- Environmental and Disaster Management
- Finance: Financial Accounting, BCom Accounting, and Auditing
- Hydrology
- Information Technology
- Media Studies
- Regional and Town Planning
- Tourism
- Water and Waste Management
- Youth Development
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted within three months of the closing date. If you do not receive feedback by this time, please consider your application unsuccessful.
Eligibility Requirements for the Vhembe District Municipality Bursary
Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Have completed Matric.
- It resides within the Vhembe District area of Limpopo province.
- Be studying or intending to study towards a qualification in one of the listed fields.
- Be registered or accepted at a recognized tertiary institution within the district.
- Come from a disadvantaged background.
How to Apply
- Download and complete the Vhembe District Municipality Bursary Application Form 2025 (.pdf). Alternatively, collect the application form from local municipalities in Musina, Makhado, Thulamela, and Collins Chabane.
- Submit the following supporting documents along with your completed application form:
- Certified copy of your ID document.
- A certified copy of your Matric final results/certificate is required.
- Full tertiary academic record if currently studying (on institution letterhead).
- Proof of acceptance/provisional acceptance at a tertiary institution (on institution letterhead).
- Certified copies of parents’ or guardians’ ID documents (if applicable).
- Parents’ or guardians’ proof of income (latest payslips, affidavit, pension, or grant proof).
- Proof of residence from SANCO, Headman, or Civic organization.
