The Sishen Iron Ore Company-Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT) invites applications from South African students for its 2025 bursary program.
Established in 2006, the SIOC-CDT supports community development in areas where Sishen Iron Ore Company (SIOC) operates, primarily within the Northern Cape and Limpopo provinces.
SIOC-CDT Bursary 2025
This bursary aims to provide financial assistance to deserving underprivileged students, helping them pursue higher education at recognized institutions.
Study Fields Covered by the SIOC-CDT Bursary
While the bursary is open to students pursuing any field of study, preference will be given to the following disciplines:
- Agriculture: Veterinarian, Livestock Product Analyst, Environmental Officer, Agricultural Economist, Agricultural Engineer, Food Technologists, Food Technicians
- Business Management and Economics: Accounting, Economics, Auditing and Tax, Actuarial Science, Statistics and Mathematics, Project Management
- Education: BEd. FET Mathematics, BEd. FET Physical Science, BEd. Natural Sciences, Economic and Management Science, BEd. Foundation Phase, BEd. Language, BEd. Special Needs
- Engineering and Science: Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Geology, Electrical Engineering, Town Planning, Environmental Health
- Health and Clinical-related Sciences: MBChB, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Advanced EMS, Nursing, Chemical/Biological/Medical Lab Sciences, Biochemistry
- Information Technology: Computer Sciences, Software Development, Data Science/Analytics, Web Design and Development
- Law: Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
- Tourism: Hospitality Management, Arts and Culture Heritage, Ecotourism Management
Note: Applications from students in other fields of study are welcome but will receive lower priority.
SIOC-CDT Bursary Coverage
The bursary provides comprehensive financial support, which includes:
- Tuition fees
- Registration fees
- Accommodation
- Prescribed study materials
- Laptop
- Monthly stipend
Additionally, students with disabilities will receive assistive devices to enhance their learning experience.
Who Can Apply For The SIOC-CDT Bursary?
Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for the bursary:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be under the age of 35 by the application closing date.
- Reside in or originate from SIOC-CDT beneficiary communities (Gamagara, Ga-Segonyana, Tsantsabane, Joe Morolong in Northern Cape, or Thabazimbi in Limpopo).
- Currently, I am in Matric or have completed Matric.
- Intend to study full-time or part-time towards an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification at a recognized South African public institution in 2025.
- Achieve a minimum overall average of 65% in the most recent academic results.
- Demonstrate financial need (household income below R600,000 per year).
- Commit to studying in one of the preferred fields (students in other fields may also apply).
- Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Ensure you attach certified copies (not older than three months) of the following:
- ID document
- Matric mid-year/prelim results (if in Matric) or Matric certificate
- Latest tertiary academic results (if applicable)
- Proof of acceptance/provisional acceptance at a public institution
- Parents/guardians’ proof of income (latest payslips or affidavit)
- Parents/guardians’ three months bank statements
- Proof of residence (e.g., rates, taxes, or affidavit)
- Medical note for students with disabilities (if applicable)
Deadline for Applications
The closing date for applications is 17 January 2025 (noon midday).
Note: Applicants from the first application round do not need to reapply. Late submissions will not be accepted.
