The Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP) invites South African students to apply for its 2025 Bursary Programme.

This initiative aims to support historically disadvantaged individuals pursuing careers in Investment Management and related fields.

ABSIP Bursary 2025

Established in 1995, ABSIP addresses the underrepresentation of black professionals in the investment and securities industry.

ABSIP is a key driver of transformation in the Financial Sector and is affiliated with the Black Business Council (BBC).

ABSIP covers a wide range of professionals and sub-sectors, including Corporate and Investment Banking, Asset Management, Treasury, and Private Equity.

Study Fields Covered by the ABSIP Bursary

The ABSIP Bursary Fund, in partnership with STANLIB, provides funding for the following qualifications related to Investment Management:

  • Bachelor of Business Science (BBusSc)
  • Bachelor of Commerce (BCom)
  • Bachelor of Science (BSc)

ABSIP Bursary Benefits

The ABSIP Bursary provides comprehensive financial support, covering:

  • Tuition fees

  • Accommodation (preferably on-campus)
  • Stipend (based on financial need)
  • Laptop (based on financial need)

Renewal: Bursaries are renewed annually based on satisfactory academic performance and available funding.

Who Can Apply for ABSIP Bursaries?

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Come from a historically disadvantaged background.
  • Be classified as Black under the B-BBEE Act.
  • Have completed Matric.
  • Be studying or intending to study full-time towards an Investment Management-related qualification.
  • Be accepted or enrolled at one of these universities:
    • University of Cape Town
    • University of the Western Cape
    • Stellenbosch University
    • University of Johannesburg
    • University of Pretoria
    • University of Witwatersrand
    • Rhodes University
    • University of the Free State
    • University of Fort Hare
    • University of Limpopo
    • University of KwaZulu-Natal
    • University of Zululand
    • University of Venda
    • Walter Sisulu University
    • Nelson Mandela University
    • North-West University
  • Have a strong academic record, with a minimum average of 75% in core subjects.
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Show leadership qualities and participation in extracurricular activities (preferred).
  • Intend to pursue a career in the Investment field.
  • Have no permanent work experience (vacation work is acceptable).
  • Not be a STANLIB employee or a relative of one.

Steps to Apply

To apply for the ABSIP Bursary, follow these steps:

  1. Complete the ABSIP Bursary Application 2025 online form.
  2. Upload the following supporting documents (certified copies where indicated):
    • ID document
    • Academic record/transcripts (on institutional letterhead)
    • University fee statement or quote (on institutional letterhead)
    • Motivational letter (1 page) explaining your reasons for pursuing an Investment Management qualification
    • Parents or guardians’ ID documents
    • Parents or guardians’ proof of income (latest 3 months payslips or affidavit if unemployed)
    • Parents’ or guardians’ bank statements (latest 3 months)

Document Naming Format: Name_Surname_DocumentType_ABSIP2025 (e.g., John_Doe_ID_ABSIP2025).

Application Deadline: Submit your application before 17 January 2025.
